Drug Concerns Prompt Student Beeper Ban

Students may no longer wear beepers at their high school because the electronic pagers have been used for drug deals, the principal says.

“If we see a beeper on any student, we confiscate it and make the parent of the student come to school and pick it up,” Stratford High Principal Jim Neely said Tuesday. Five beepers have been confiscated so far this year.

Drug dealers give youths pagers so the dealers can easily contact students and tell them where to pick up and deliver drugs, authorities say.
