The American Film Institute has selected 21 women for its Directing Workshop for Women, established in 1974 to help professional women working in film and television to make the leap to directing. The 16 participants and five alternates, chosen from 300 applicants across the country, represent a variety of entertainment industry professions from actors to producers. Program alumnae: Randa Haines (“Children of a Lesser God”), Lynne Littman (“Testament”) and Emmy recipient Karen Arthur (“Cagney & Lacey”).
