Obituaries : Hollywood Reporter George W. Fisher
Veteran Hollywood reporter George W. Fisher, who kept tabs on the industry’s biggest stars for radio and television, died Wednesday after a lengthy illness. He was 77.
He had formed the George Fisher Public Relations firm after his long reporting career.
Fisher joined the San Francisco Examiner as a copy boy at 15, and within three years he was broadcasting the paper’s news stories over Hearst-owned KYA radio. His 33-year broadcasting career included stints at more than half a dozen Southern California radio stations, including KFI, KFWB, KNX and KCMJ.
Fisher chronicled the lives of Hollywood stars through a gossip column that was used by the Los Angeles Evening News, Radio Mirror and Modern Screen. In 1973, he became entertainment editor for the Hollywood Citizen-News.
Fisher was a member of the Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters and last year was awarded the Diamond Circle Award.
Fisher is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Kim, Geoff, Jon and Bob, and daughters, Gina and Dana.
