8-3 Mark Good Enough for Rose Bowl Participant

Attention, reader John Martin: Wake up! I confess that I hate USC, and I don’t care about Michigan State, but you have some whacked views of the Rose Bowl match. Would it please you if UCLA was there instead? They would be, but USC beat them. What is the beef with an 8-3 record? Are you old enough to remember when 8-3 Stanford upset No. 1-ranked and undefeated Ohio State in the 1971 Rose Bowl? How about the next year? Stanford beat top 5-ranked Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

This does not suggest that the Rose Bowl will be a good game, but we may see other “pathetic” games on Jan. 1.
