U.S.-Soviet Nuclear Accord

Reagan’s incisive comment about Gorbachev’s popularity symbolizes how far America is from understanding our perceived enemy. “No, I don’t resent his popularity or anything else. Good Lord, I co-starred with Errol Flynn once.” Comparing the Soviet leader to an old movie star indicates the mentality of the man who is supposed to be running this country.

Thus, it is not surprising that American television viewers would rather watch pro football, stuntmen and sitcoms than listen for one hour (Dec. 1) to the Soviet leader. Even Reagan only had time to watch “parts” of the interview.

Undoubtedly those Americans who did not hear Gorbachev are precisely the ones so intent on combatting communism and increasing military spending.
