Hilco Scamper Wins Hollywood Park Sprint
Longshot Hilco Scamper won the featured $107,800 National Sprint Championship at Hollywood Park Saturday by a half-length as favored Zabaleta finished third.
Despite its name, the six-furlong race decided no racing title but did provide some surprises for the crowd of 20,709.
Hilco Scamper, a 4-year-old gelding bred in Washington and ridden by Corey Black, paid $17, $8.60 and $4, and was timed in 1:09 3/5.
Reconnoitering, a 12-1 shot ridden by apprentice jockey Aaron Gryder, finished second.
