Bob Tway and Mike Hulbert made four birdies apiece for an eight-under-par 64 Saturday to maintain their five-stroke lead after three rounds of the $600,000 Chrysler PGA Team championship at West Palm Beach, Fla.

Tied for second place were the teams of Fred Couples-Mike Donald and defending champions Gary Hallberg-Scott Hoch.

Johnny Miller and Peter Jacobsen were another stroke back.

Tway and Hulbert built their lead with scores of 61 and 59 in the first two rounds. They were challenged by other teams several times Saturday but always responded with a birdie and will take a 32-under-par score of 184 into today’s final round.

Hallberg and Hoch were at 189 after shooting a 62. Tway and Hulbert led for three days last year before losing to Hallberg and Hoch in the final round.

“We overtook them last year, but the way they’re playing, we can’t win,” Hoch said. “They have to lose.”

Couples and Donald shot a 64 Saturday.

Heavy rains left the Royal Kaanapali North Course unplayable, prompting officials of a $300,000 seniors tournament at Kaanapali, Hawaii, to schedule 18 holes for today and cut the tournament from 54 holes to 36.
