A man approached by park rangers for minor campground violations turned out to be wanted in an Ohio triple murder, authorities in Santa Cruz said. State rangers arrested Harry Sanford, 42, at New Brighton State Beach. Rangers Laura Colton and Tom Morgan were talking to Sanford and a companion, Gerard Toschner of Santa Cruz, about minor violations at their campsite when the two became “mouthy,” state parks official Ray Jenkins said. The rangers ran a check and found that Sanford was wanted in connection with the Sept. 4 slaying of Lowell Dillow, 39, and his nephews, Todd Dillow Jr., 5, and Ronald E. Dillow Jr., 18. The three were killed in the Clark County town of Pitchin, southeast of Springfield. Sanford’s car and .44-caliber pistol, which police believed was used in the killings, were found the next day at the crime scene. Sanford is being held in the Santa Cruz County jail pending extradition to Ohio. Toschner was cited for breaking park rules and released.
