Arco Alaska Inc. has withdrawn from a proposed multibillion-dollar project to build a natural gas transportation system from the North Slope, through Canada to the West Coast and Midwest. The proposed 4,800-mile system to move North Slope natural gas to the rest of the nation won approval of the U.S. and Canadian governments in 1977.
