Microsemi said earnings for its fiscal year ended Sept. 27 rose 3%, to $5.5 million from $5.3 million a year earlier. The Santa Ana-based semiconductor maker reported sales of $46.8 million, a 21% increase from sales of $38.7 million a year earlier. For the fourth quarter, sales were $14.6 million, up 40% from $10.4 million a year earlier. Net earnings declined 7%, to $1.4 million from $1.5 million a year ago. Microsemi said its fourth-quarter earnings include $153,000 from the sale of an interest in a company it didn’t identify. Microsemi said its backlog of orders is $35 million, contrasted with $15 million a year earlier.
