It’s a good season for nuts, according to the Agriculture Department. Holiday shoppers can expect a plentiful supply and some bargains, said J. Patrick Boyle, head of the department’s Agricultural Marketing Service. The harvest of many nut crops is larger than last year and, in many cases, prices are down. Record large crops of almonds and walnuts were harvested in California this fall, and the filbert crops in Oregon and Washington are the second largest on record, he said.
