The State : Suspension for Racist Forms

Share

A Pleasant Hill high school teacher was suspended after he assigned students to fill out a mock employment questionnaire containing a variety of racist stereotypes. The two-page questionnaire, distributed by instructor Ted Ault to ninth-grade students at College Park High School, drew complaints from numerous parents and students after it advised black “job applicants” not to attach a photograph “since you all look alike.” Another portion of the questionnaire asked Latino “applicants” to “list the time and date you illegally entered the United States.” Supt. Frank Abbot of the Mount Diablo School District said the materials apparently were intended “to teach the concept of how prejudice develops. But I think the materials used were inappropriate.” Ault faces further disciplinary action next month.
