The World : Anti-U.S. Protest in Korea

Dissident students firebombed offices of a U.S. government agency, adding a streak of anti-Americanism to protests against alleged fraud in last week’s South Korean presidential election. No injuries were reported when as many as 50 students hurled Molotov cocktails at a building in the southwestern city of Kwangju that houses the U.S. Information Agency. “We regard it as an isolated incident,” a U.S. Embassy spokesman said in Seoul. Kwangju is an opposition stronghold and a hotbed of protests against the election of ruling party candidate Roh Tae Woo.
