Kings, Seeking Second Straight Win, Will Play Oilers Tonight at Edmonton

The Kings, winners of two of their last three games, meet the slumping Edmonton Oilers tonight at the Northlands Coliseum.

The Oilers, who have fallen three points behind the first-place Calgary Flames in the Smythe Division race, are winless in their last three games, including a 7-5 loss to the Kings last Wednesday night at the Forum.

After beating the Oilers, the Kings split a two-game set last weekend against the Flames.

“But we will not be a contender until we can at least win two or three games in a row,” Jimmy Carson said Sunday night after the Kings’ 6-3 victory at Calgary. “We can’t get overconfident.”

Overconfident?

Edmonton (19-12-3) is the defending Stanley Cup champion.

The Kings are 9-21-4.

King Notes

Grant Ledyard, injured in Sunday night’s game at Calgary, flew home Monday to Los Angeles, where it was diagnosed that he had sprained his left ankle. Ken Hammond was recalled from the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate at New Haven, Conn., to fill Ledyard’s spot in the lineup. . . . There was a possibility that Bob Bourne, who strained his right knee last week, would rejoin the team, but Bourne said that the knee was still sore.
