Organizers of Sunday’s “Orange County Music for the Needy” benefit concert at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano reported raising more than $1,100 in cash and collecting an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 cans of food to distribute to Orange County families.

Concert organizer Jim Palmer said the response was “way over what I thought we would do” and that donations far exceeded what was necessary to supply Christmas dinners for seven families he was assigned through St. Barbara’s Church in Santa Ana. The additional food, money and gifts that were collected will go into a pool at the church to be given to other families.

Palmer estimated that between 500 and 600 people attended the nine-hour event that featured a dozen Orange County bands over the course of the day.
