Share

A deadline for obtaining matching funds as part of a challenge from a foundation has been met in a bid to pay for expansion of Orange Coast College’s Rowing and Sailing Center on Newport Bay, the college announced.

In October, 1986, the Steele Foundation pledged $150,000 for the project, provided the Orange Coast College Foundation could match the amount by Dec. 1. College officials last week announced that more than $165,000 had been raised by the deadline.

Ground-breaking for the expansion project is scheduled for early spring, with completion anticipated by fall. The overall project is expected to cost about $350,000. A second story on the existing structure will be built, providing more space for classes and offices.
