San Jose Police Chief Joseph McNamara shuffled his commanders and called for an investigation into the handling of the “Ski Mask Rapist” case. McNamara’s action followed reports that an 83-year-old woman was raped in a Saratoga church during the Thanksgiving weekend, when detectives suspended surveillance of George Anthony Sanchez, the suspect who was eventually arrested. Deputy Chief Tom Frazier, 42, was named to take over the post of chief of the Bureau of Investigations from Ike Hernandez, a 30-year veteran who led the probe into a series of at least 33 rapes over three years.
