TransTechnology Gets Air Force, Navy Pacts Worth $14.4 Million
TransTechnology in Sherman Oaks says its aerospace and defense group has received contracts totaling $14.4 million.
The contracts include a $4.2-million Air Force award for a device that simulates an infrared flare used by pilots in training.
The company also won a $2.8-million Navy contract for “chaff”--clouds of metalized glass fibers that act as defensive decoys used by aircraft or ships trying to avoid radar detection. Chaff is designed to draw radar-tracked weapons fire away from its intended targets.
TransTechnology also won a $5.2-million contract from an unidentified West German company to build hoists for rockets.
