Local News in Brief : Reservoir to Get Cover

Share

The Metropolitan Water District is working on a huge covering for the Palos Verdes Reservoir in Rolling Hills Estates to combat a longstanding algae problem that has prevented full use of the 358-million-gallon reservoir.

The reservoir’s lining is being repaired, and the rubber-like covering for the 30-acre facility is being installed on the bottom, said district spokesman Bob Gomperz. The covering will rise as the empty reservoir is refilled. The covering will prevent sunlight from acting on the algae, giving the water a swampy odor and greenish cast.

Work on the $5.8-million project is to be completed in March.
