San Clemente officials, upset about a recent high-speed chase that resulted in 10 injuries, plan to raise the subject of Border Patrol chases at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. The controversy over Border Patrol tactics arose in December, 1986, when a carload of aliens slammed into a local bank, injuring seven of the car’s occupants. A proposal to move the nearby Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 5 five miles farther south is awaiting approval of Border Patrol officials in Washington.
