A Philippine official said the government so far has recovered at least $170 million illegally stashed away by former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos, who was forced from office in February, 1986. Ramon Diaz, head of the Presidential Commission on Good Government, said in a television interview that millions of dollars worth of company assets held by Marcos have also been seized. Diaz said the recovered assets include about $65 million in treasury bills and government casino earnings plus $40 million from property sales, mainly in the United States.
