SANTIAGO, Chile — A ship carrying scientists foundered on rocks off the Chilean coast Tuesday, and at least 73 people aboard were safely rescued without injury, the Chilean navy reported.
A naval spokesman said the 2,300-top Logos, a Singapore-flagged vessel, ran aground in the Beagle Channel shortly after midnight near the port of Puerto Williams, on the channel dividing Argentina and Chile at the southern tip of South America. Chilean vessels came to the ship’s assistance, evacuating passengers and crew.
