Guard Andrew Toney of the Philadelphia 76ers, who was suspended indefinitely for leaving the team on its recent Western trip, says he was given permission to go home by Coach Matt Guokas.
“There’s apparently a credibility problem somewhere,” Bob Wright, Toney’s attorney, said after General Manager John Nash announced the suspension late Monday.
According to Nash, Toney was suspended “for failure to comply with team rules and procedures.”
Toney, who has been advised not to comment on the suspension, returned to Philadelphia after a chronic foot problem flared up during a game last Friday at Portland.
“We have enough distractions as we go along,” Guokas said. “This is one that, in due time, hopefully will take care of itself.”
