Diamond sales totaled $3.07 billion in 1987, a 20.3% rise over 1986 and the highest figure ever recorded, according to De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd., Johannesburg, South Africa. The company said most of the growth was recorded in the first 10 months of the year and that sales declined after the world stock market crash.
