Reagan Asked to Declare Oahu Major Disaster Area

HONOLULU —
Gov. John Waihee has asked President Reagan to declare the island of Oahu a major disaster area as the result of recent flooding that caused an estimated $35 million in damage. Waihee signed the formal request, which would authorize federal assistance for eligible victims, after meeting Tuesday night with officials who surveyed the damage.
