Palmer Included in Field for Event at Wood Ranch

Arnold Palmer has joined Chi Chi Rodriguez, Miller Barber, defending champion Bob Charles and 48 other golfers in the field for the 1988 GTE Seniors Classic at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.

The 54-hole tournament will be played March 11-13 and offers a purse of $275,000. In addition, a Skins Game involving four selected players, or a shoot-out in which all entrants will participate, will be held March 9, according to tournament general chairman Bernie Jensen.

Others who have agreed to play in the tournament include former champion Dale Douglass, Jerry Barber, George Bayer, Tommy Bolt, Gay Brewer, John Brodie, Billy Casper, Bruce Devlin, Jack Fleck, Al Geiberger, Paul Harney, Bobby Nichols, Doug Sanders, Peter Thomson and Art Wall.

In addition, Shigeru Uchida, a standout on the Japan Professional Golfers’ Assn., will play on a sponsor’s exemption. Uchida is the current seniors champion on the Japanese circuit.
