Former Columbia Pictures Chairman David Puttnam was named the recipient of this year’s Eastman Second Century Award, the Eastman Kodak Motion Picture and Audiovisual Products Division announced Thursday. Puttnam--thus honored for his long record of support to young film makers--was the person who gave Michael Apted, Alan Parker and Ridley Scott their first opportunities to direct. He also helped secure funding for the Coca-Cola-sponsored Discovery Program, which enables people in other movie disciplines to receive training as directors. Puttnam will receive the award Feb. 9 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
