Russell Adam Harrison was sentenced Thursday to 26 years to life in prison for the August, 1984, murder of Marine Staff Sgt. Carlo Troiani in Oceanside.

Harrison, 23, a former Marine from Brooklyn, had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy in the ambush slaying. Troiani’s wife, Laura, and triggerman Mark Schultz have been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Vista Superior Court Judge Gilbert Nares passed sentence on Harrison after reading letters from a psychologist, who said Harrison was victimized by a macho mentality bred in the Marine Corps, and his mother, who said Harrison was welcome to live with her.
