A suspect in the slaying of a San Diego man last year was arrested this week in Mexico, and police said Friday that the San Diego County district attorney’s office will try to prosecute the man while he remains in Mexico, police said.

Moises Luna-Flores, 27, a Mexican national, was arrested Tuesday in Tijuana by the State Judicial Police, which had been working with San Diego homicide detectives on the case.

Luna was wanted in connection with the March death of Jose E. Lopez, a gardener and handyman in La Jolla. Lopez died of a single gunshot wound after being shot outside a home in the 7500 block of Draper Avenue.

At the time, San Diego homicide detectives speculated that Luna, who became a suspect in the case, fled to Mexico. San Diego police then initiated a joint search for Luna with Mexican authorities.

“Homicide detectives and the district attorney’s office are preparing a package enabling them to prosecute Luna in Mexico,” said Lt. Connie Van Putten, a police spokeswoman.
