RETAILING

On Christmas Day, South Coast Plaza security counted 5,000 cars cruising through the parking lot of Orange County’s premier mall. Ordinarily, that would be nothing to brag about, but the mega-mall was closed that day.

“Maybe they got bored with the turkey and came to do a little shopping. . . . Or maybe their cars are (set) on automatic pilot to turn off on Bristol,” said Maura Eggan, marketing director.

Either way, at least some folks apparently weren’t discouraged. Seventy-five thousand cars came to the mall Dec. 26.
