3 Californians Sentenced to Die
Three California men were sentenced to death today in the murder of a Yuma woman and attempted murder of her husband.
Fred L. Robinson, 43; Jimmy Lee Mathers, 41, and Theodore Washington, 27, all from Banning, were convicted by a Yuma County Superior Court Jury last month of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, burglary and armed robbery. The three were convicted of killing Sterleen Hill, 51, and wounding her husband, Ralph Hill Sr., 58. According to testimony during their trial, the victims were tied up and forced to lie face-down on their bedroom floor, then each was shot in the back with a shotgun.
