Walnut : Builder Appeals ‘No’ Vote

Developers of a proposed 255-unit condominium for senior citizens in a scenic canyon near the junction of the Orange and Pomona freeways are appealing the unanimous rejection of the project by the Regional Planning Commission in November.

Arciero & Sons of Anaheim has formally applied for a review by the County Board of Supervisors, which has ultimate authority in land-use decisions on unincorporated land.

Frank Arciero Jr., a principal in the firm, said the Planning Commission had misunderstood the idea behind the condominium project, which was designed for physically active elderly people. “I feel they thought it was more of a congregate care type of development,” Arciero said. “It’s not.”

Phil Duarte, a spokesman for neighboring homeowners, said opponents of the project will get “cranked up again” for the supervisors’ hearing, which will be scheduled within two months.
