Robbers Hold Up Banks in Three Different Cities

Three banks in Orange County were robbed Wednesday, authorities said.

In Brea, two men in their mid-20s wearing baseball caps entered Founder’s National Bank on Brea Boulevard at 10:55 a.m. and demanded money from a teller, Brea police said. They were handed about $400, then fled. No one was hurt, police said.

In Fullerton, a man in his mid-40s entered the Farmers & Merchants Bank on Orangethorpe Avenue about 11:20 a.m., pointed a handgun at a teller, and demanded money, Fullerton police said.

The suspect was handed an undisclosed amount of cash in a bag, then ran out of the bank, police said. Outside, he was tackled by a customer who had followed him from the building, police said. The robber fired one shot but missed, then ran away, leaving behind his gun and the money, police said. His accomplice, a woman who had been sitting in a red sports car, then ran up to the customer, waiving a handgun and demanded the money, which he gave her, police said.

Meanwhile, two men who had witnessed the incident attempted to stop the male bank robber as he ran down Orangethorpe Avenue, police said. As his accomplice drove up in her car, the suspect struggled free of the two men and jumped into the car, which sped off, police said.

In Westminster, a man entered a branch of Security Pacific National Bank on Bolsa Avenue about 3:45 p.m. He handed a teller a note demanding money, police said, and was given about $1,500, before fleeing.
