Local News in Brief : Mini-Mall Ban Extended

Share

A citywide moratorium on the building of mini-malls was extended six months Wednesday by the Los Angeles City Council.

Last Aug. 2, the council imposed the moratorium pending a review by the Planning Department of current zoning ordinances affecting the malls. The extension for 180 days beyond the Feb. 2 expiration date of the current moratorium was ordered because the study is not completed.

Critics say the malls are unsightly and cause traffic snarls because some lack sufficient parking.

Following objections to the moratorium extension by the Southern California Commercial Property Owners Assn., the council directed city planners to report within 45 days on their progress in reviewing the zoning ordinances.
