Beverly Hills : $1.5 Million for Jubilee Likely

Share

The City Council this week indicated that it will approve an additional $1.5 million for the Beverly Hills Visitors Bureau to finance the city’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.

The council, which has already provided $146,200 for the city’s 75th anniversary, is expected to formally approve the request at its regular meeting Tuesday.

However, council members said they expect the bureau to repay the city at least half the $1.5 million with private donations.

The convention and visitors agency expects to spend nearly $1.7 million on a 14-month-long celebration, which will include the participation of foreign countries and what is being called the world’s largest fashion show, with more than 1,000 models promenading on a 2 1/2-block-long runway on Rodeo Drive over the 1989 Labor Day weekend.
