“20 Greatest Hits.” Loretta Lynn. MCA. This is an exemplary retrospective of one of country music’s most important figures. During the ‘60s and ‘70s, Lynn wrote and recorded numerous hits that helped redefine the role of women in country music, from the early “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind),” which rebelled against the long-suffering martyr typical of country songs, to her controversial 1975 hit celebrating “The Pill.” Lynn arguably has taken the message of equal rights for women to more average folks than any politician or speechmaker. Sound quality: good. ****
