American trumpeter George “Kid Shiek” Colar ended a concert tour of Thailand with an instrument fit for a real king--a gift from fellow jazz lover King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The monarch gave 79-year-old Colar, of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band of New Orleans, a French-made Cousenon trumpet as a memento of a palace jam session that followed the band’s weekend concerts in Bangkok, U.S. officials said. An American who attended the royal jam said the talented king, playing clarinet and trumpet, “got right into it” with the New Orleans group during their Sunday session.
