Skull Surgery Planned for Separated Twins

Associated Press

Doctors have decided to proceed with surgery to insert special plates into the scalps of Patrick and Benjamin Binder, the Siamese twins separated in an unprecedented operation last September, officials said Friday.

The plates, made of titanium mesh, will fill in the open skull areas created by the surgical separation of the boys, who had been joined at the back of the head, a spokeswoman at Johns Hopkins Hospital said.
