A Yugoslav adviser to an international commission investigating Kurt Waldheim said he had seen documents implicating the Austrian president in World War II crimes. “He (Waldheim) did not himself kill people,” Dusan Plence said in a Belgrade television interview. “He prepared them for death. He received and implemented orders. (The documents shed) light on his role in ruthlessly suppressing the Kozara area.” Kozara was a German occupation zone in Western Bosnia, where German forces killed 60,000 people, including 23,000 children. Plence is a Yugoslav army historian and former head of the Yugoslav Military Archives. Waldheim has denied any wrongdoing.
