The New China News Agency has announced the purchase of a large information processing and distribution system from American Telephone & Telegraph.
AT&T; and news agency executives said the system would start trials in the agency’s new 28-floor Beijing headquarters in late 1988 and would eventually be extended to most of its 28 regional offices in China.
The computers will allow journalists to work in Chinese on one side of their video display terminals and in Arabic, Russian, English, French, Spanish or Chinese on the other. AT&T; officials said the system cost less than $10 million.
