Boy Pulled From Pond Awakens After 13 Days

CHARLESTON, S.C. —
Kendall Smith, the boy who was comatose for 13 days after being rescued from the bottom of anicy pond, regained consciousness Monday, doctors said.
Dr. Fred Tecklenburg, director of the Medical University of South Carolina, said that Kendall, 9, did not speak but was aware of his surroundings. Tecklenburg said that doctors are “happy with where things are heading.”
