Fifteen California peace protesters joined in a simultaneous pledge with 48 Washington, D.C., activists to fast 10 days in opposition to further aid to Contra rebels in Nicaragua. The 15 protesters, led by Holly Rauen, wife of activist Brian Willson, who was struck by a munitions train at Concord Naval Weapons Station in a protest last year, joined in the nationwide fast effort along with Medal of Honor winner Charlie Liteky and Vietnam War protester Daniel Ellsberg. More than 50 people rallied on the steps of San Francisco’s federal building to announce the planned fast and an all-night vigil Feb. 2 leading to the vote Feb. 3 in the House and Feb. 4 in the Senate on Contra aid.
