A fund-raising campaign for organ transplant patient Tabatha Foster got a $1,000 boost Monday when President Reagan sent a personal check.

Joseph Williams, a Pittsburgh attorney and trustee for the Tabatha Foster Fund, said the total in the fund is about $140,000. Williams said Tabatha’s medical expenses have reached about $325,000, although he suspects hospital officials are not passing along all the charges.

More than 100 calls came to the hospital during the weekend after Reagan appealed during his Saturday radio address for donations and prayers for the 3 1/2-year-old Madisonville, Ky., girl.

Tabatha is in serious condition in Children’s Hospital recovering from a rare transplant in November of her liver, pancreas, small intestine and parts of her stomach and colon. She was born with congenitally twisted organs.
