- Los Angeles Philharmonic music director Andre Previn threw a welcome bouquet to the La Jolla Chamber Music Society in his keynote address at Chamber Music America’s national conference in Los Angeles last week. He cited the La Jolla organization’s SummerFest ’87 as one of the country’s best organized and most prestigious summer music festivals.

“I had the privilege of playing there last summer and look forward to next time. Unexpected and amazing people show up: world-famous violinists, who are perfectly happy to play second violin in ensembles; virtuosos turn pages for friends, and rehearsals go on as best we can until very late at night.”

Chamber music society Executive Director Geoff Brooks will announce the programming for SummerFest ’88 in two weeks. For the third consecutive year, Heiichiro Ohyama, Previn’s associate conductor at the Philharmonic, will be the summer festival’s artistic director.
