A former trustee of the Coast Community College District was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of filing a fraudulent insurance claim, Newport Beach police reported.

The former trustee, George Rodda Jr., allegedly filed a false insurance claim regarding a burglary said to have occurred Sept. 19, 1987, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Tim Newman.

Rodda was booked at Newport Beach City Jail, and released on his own recognizance by a municipal judge, Newman said.

The Newport Beach attorney served for 17 years on the Coast district’s board of trustees, including five years as its president. He received the 1976 Trustee of the Year award from the California Community Colleges Trustees.

Rodda declined to seek reelection to the board in November, 1985.

Coast Community College District governs Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Golden West College in Huntington Beach and Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley. After the Los Angeles Community College District, it is the largest in the state.

Rodda could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
