Jones Leads AIA to Win Over UCSD

Zack Jones scored 25 points to lead Athletes In Action to a 95-85 victory over UC San Diego in an exhibition at UCSD Tuesday night.

Mark Gottfried added 24 points for AIA (21-9), which shot 60.5% to take a 50-36 halftime lead. Gib Hinz, who had 15 rebounds, and Reid Gettys each scored 17 for AIA.

UCSD was playing without starting guards Rob Rittgers and Tim Rapp, who were out with foot injuries. But freshman Greg Paskwietz scored 21 and freshman Dan Troy 19, each in his first start. Each made five three-pointers. Troy also had 10 assists.

Steve de Lavaga, who had 25 points, led Cal Lutheran over host Point Loma Nazarne College, 80-73, in a Golden State Athletic Conference game.

Freshmen Jimmy Hill and Mark Bulgin scored 21 and 13 points for Point Loma Nazarene (7-12, 1-4). Michael Demeter added 17 for Cal Lutheran (9-10, 4-1).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Laura Mars scored 17 points and had 9 rebounds to lead Point Loma Nazarene College to a 72-54 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over Cal Lutheran College (2-13, 1-3). Shelly Stokes added 12 points and Suzi Jones had 8 points and 10 rebounds for Point Loma Nazarene (14-6, 3-1).
