Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. has appointed Geoffrey Ammer to the post of senior vice president-marketing in the motion picture division. A Fox employee since 1980, he succeeds Susan Pile, who cited personal reasons for resigning from the studio earlier this week.

Ammer, 37, served most recently as vice president of national field operations and special promotions in the Fox motion picture unit. In his first job at the studio, he served as co-op administrator in the advertising department.

Pile, who joined Fox 15 months ago from Paramount Pictures, issued a statement thanking studio executives for releasing her from a two-year contract. Pile was unavailable for comment, but current and former associates praised her work and described the move as a life style decision by the 40-year-old executive, who reportedly hopes to relocate to Europe.

Pile began her career in the entertainment business as a media buyer and account executive with the Diener/Hauser/Bates advertising agency in Los Angeles.
