Monrovia : Waste Disposal Conference

The state Waste Management Board and the cities of Duarte and Bell will sponsor a conference today and Friday at the Holiday Inn in Monrovia on recycling and composting alternatives for waste disposal.

Duarte Mayor John Hitt said his city and Bell have been allied in opposition to trash incineration plants and decided to sponsor a conference that would give city officials and others an opportunity to talk to experts from across the country who run recycling and composting programs. The cities obtained $20,000 from the state Waste Management Board to help underwrite the cost. The conference will open at 9:30 a.m. with a welcoming address from Sherman E. Roodzant, chairman of the state Waste Management Board.
