The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club won tentative approval from a City Council committee Wednesday to place two buildings on Robb Field in Ocean Beach. In return, the club will make $250,000 worth of improvements to athletic fields at the park.
The deal, approved by the council’s Public Facilities and Recreation committee, calls for OMBAC to move the two buildings from their temporary location east of the park’s tennis courts to the western end of the tennis courts. The move will cost OMBAC an estimated $8,000, money the club is proposing to deduct from improvements it will make around the buildings, said OMBAC member Bob Watkins.
One of the buildings would be a headquarters and Rugby storage area for OMBAC. The second would be dedicated for use as a community center.
OMBAC purchased the buildings from San Diego State University for $24,000 in October. They have been criticized as an eyesore.
