Money Management at Pierce College
I read with some amusement Pierce College officials’ assertion that they should have control and maintenance of a proposed horse development built by private funds. Are these the same district officials who have handled the district funds in the past and who have been investigated for mismanagement by both the Little Hoover Commission and the Los Angeles Grand Jury?
I would like to request the track record and resume of qualifications of the officials who will be placed in charge. I should also like to challenge them to produce convincing arguments why the taxpayers should allow the district one more source of income to abuse.
Surely, the investors of this $10-million center are not so foolish as to think their money is best safeguarded by these public officials. I think it more likely they will want to watch over their own investment, unless, of course, they are looking for a massive tax loss resulting from mismanagement, “justified” budgeting for expenses, inflated work bids and spurious revenue accounting.
As a taxpayer, I don’t need the losses generated by district techniques. I cannot imagine anyone else needing them either.
